Dragnet Two in a Row?: Jays at Soxby Cameron on April 30 at 5:31PM | comments (0)
[ comments (0) ] [ BallHype ] One is a start. Two is a good start. That has to be the mentality tonight back in Fenway, a day after Boston squeaked out a ninth inning walk-off win against Toronto ace Roy Halladay. Kevin Youkilis' game-ending single was the difference in a near perfectly pitched game by both Halladay and Jon Lester, WMYM postings below beside the point. So, tonight the Red Sox roll out a post-flu bitten Daisuke Matsuzaka and fully rested bullpen to try and hold off the Jays for a second straight night. The bats, meanwhile, will get to try and tee off against Dustin McGowan. Who? That, our friends, is a question you shouldn't be asking anymore. After all, McGowan was stupendous in his first outing against the Sox, a stunning complete-game, one-run win that, to date, is his only victory of the year. In case you're wondering, here's how the two teams and lineups match up against each other for tonight's game, courtesy Baseball-Reference, as always. "A win is a win" platitudes aside, one thing is clear: the Red Sox need to start hitting the ball better. And they need to do it soon. While injuries have ravaged the lineup early on, reinforcements are on the way; Mike Lowell returned last night and David Ortiz professes to feel better than he has in the early going, after the offseason's knee surgery ws clearly still taking it's toll (just follow the chart of his back angle and crouch in comparison to his meager early-season batting average. It's not a pretty bar graph). Will McGowan play the fop? That's anyone's guess. He certainly hasn't in the past, but this isn't exactly SkyDome, either. The rain is holding off by all accounts, so there's no significant possibility of rainouts or rain delays. You know what that means. Buckle up folks, there's another face off on tap amigos.
