Dragnet Starbucks City: Sox at Mariners

We're going to try a new approach to series here at WMYM, rolling out a Dragnet Gametime post for the start of series, and then on special occasions for every big game as the season rolls along. That means today is primed for some Dragnet, and since the Sox are off in Seattle, it just gives us more reason to do it over a nice cup of Starbucks mochalattechinobalghaisghaisfh. Make it a venti.

jddrewbattoss.pngLuckily for Boston, Seattle is reeling. REALLY reeling, courtesy a three-game Bronx sweep at the hands of that team in pinstripes. Of course, that's also the bad news, considering the fact that the Mariners may need wins EVEN MORE than the Sox do. And they're at home. And Boston has been plenty rough on the road, as recent results from Northern California showed all too well.

And how are the Sox supposed to bounce back, after losing consecutive starts by Josh Beckett and Jon Lester? With Bartolo Colon, of course. That's right folks, the second installment of Red Sox Nation's great colonoscopy comes tonight, with Colon and the Sox facing off against young Seattle ace Felix Hernandez. If its pitching matchups for the whole series you want, well, scrolling down this list is how to get it.

Anyone who questions King Felix's bona fides need think back to his mastery of the Sox lineup in a win at Daisuke Matsuzaka's home debut last spring. He hasn't been quite as dominant this time around - he's only 2-4 - though you wouldn't know it from his 3.34 ERA or the velocity of his fastball.

That only makes the job facing Boston's batters harder. If the three-game weekend sweep at the hand of the A's taught us anything, it's that Red Sox hitters have developed a bit of a complex about entering the batter's box outside of Fenway Park. They scored six runs in three games -  none backing Beckett - and looked utterly bewildered from the moment they set foot in Oakland. If that continues in the Pacific Northwest, an already slow-starting road trip could get really ugly, really fast. If we're not there already.

Of course, all of that could end as quickly as it begins, with one big win tonight. Time to see if that'll happen.
